A willow still bending

A decent mix of odd psych experimentation and subtle pop songs. Perhaps not as groundbreaking as they probably thought it was, but a very enjoyable listen, and a positive influence on much that followed.

I seemed to find the album reversing through their name - starting off Experimental and Arty, quickly turning Pop and ending up largely West Coast. I have to say I was a bit disappointed from that point of view, if you have the word “Experimental” in your epithet then you are really committed to see out your weirdness and inventiveness rather than give up early doors. I thought their more silly numbers were enjoyable and quite effective, even if they felt somewhat contrived, and were quite striking in that they are really not the sort of thing that anyone would dare to consider doing nowadays. As for the faintly psychedelic tinged standard issue 60s pop that takes over the vibe of the album, well that does get re-visited endlessly and that’s not really my kind of thing.
