A fantastically striking and unusual album, most obviously in the vocals but also in the lyrics and the arrangements. It is so uncluttered and has non-standard instrumentation but it still feels rooted in the pop aesthetic, there's a certain directness and rhythmic drive that stops it ever feeling like a sort of chamber music, classical lite bite. The arrangements do sound effortless and even obvious at times but it's sophisticated enough for many plays.

It isn't like there was a big movement of small-town americana harp-playing teenage girls of which she was the best - she was doing entirely her own thing in her own world and it is wonderful to behold.

She sounds like an 8 year old, and it's hard to get past that - you either like it or you don't. Probably lots of lovely songs and clever lyrics, but the style rarely wavers and the album becomes monotonous quickly without that variation.
