The album does have the sound that you get when someone wants to do it all themselves... back in the 4-track days this was quite clever and technically demanding, but thesedays the wonders of modern technology make this rather more manageable. It's a decent enough album however and I enjoy the more powerful moments - and I'm sure it would be great live if he is able to reproduce it.

Some of the later tracks do say to me 'look what I can do' and feel like they're a bit for the sake of it, but these are outweighed by the better tracks.

Thunder thighs

This was an album that I found a bit difficult to make sense of. I’m guessing you’d find this filed in the psychedelic folk section and for me that is a difficult hybrid to understand the point of anyway. It seemed a similar thing to the Six Organs album we’d previously reviewed but this a lot more rounded in its structure, although perhaps less ambitious.

The piece Dalälvan was fairly indicative of the album as a whole. There are geat driving drums, nice guitar patterns which get more insistent, mixing with a seering drone, it all builds up well and then nothing really happens and then it finishes. I’m not sure anything much happens the whole album, if you hear a 10 second snippet you’ll get the idea of the whole song. Set Fire to the Forest was the exception that proved the rule, great development, nice tension which is released with a bit of a wig out and a change of feel at the end, nice one.

There’s all good sounding production, a lovely mix of instruments, and it’s difficult to particularly dislike anything but I did find it largely forgettable.

A Heinz 57 mix of various 60s and 70s styles, ending up with something of an identity crisis. Quite well played by apparently all one person, which I was not aware of. A couple of tracks manage to gather a reasonable head of steam. Lack of vocals means the album struggles to impose any sense of band character.
