This is a true album experience which seems to have a bit of everything... good pop songs, interesting classical arrangements, humour, singalong belters, something I can play from beginning to end without any sign of tedium. Hannon can be annoying, but I prefer to let the music and humour shine through this.

Fortune depends on the tone of your voice

I like a laugh, me, and have no problem with the idea of amusing songs but I'm not sure that the album as whole really worked that well. He sings mostly in this cod theatrical voice that seems unsuited to the music and the style of humour - it just isn't a madcap knock-about like the voice suggests. It's a huge relief when he finally sings 'properly' on Songs of Love, six tracks in, which I thought was definitely the top song on the album - clever, tuneful, nicely arranged and not too silly.

There are some good moments throughout, good one liners, some cleverly constructed lyrics and inventive, creative ideas but overall it felt a bit stilted, perhaps too self-conscious. Neil tells me there are classical musicians wheeled in for various parts of the album and I can believe it - there just isn't that proper dynamic of a half-baked pop musician getting excited about playing a simple phrase, it sounds like the pieces are far too easy for them and they fail to put any spark or passion into the playing.

Interesting to hear, definitely brave and a bit different from the run-of-the-mill stuff, so overall I have mixed feelings on this. Anyway, cheers for now.

It was abrave mix of styles done well but it didn't work for me. Some catchy numbers but I remained unimpressed by the album or its humour.
