Turn out the lights and feel the warmth

A strange album that falls under the genre of psychedelic trance, but is neither quite full on nor ambient. It is ambient mostly, but has enough groove and rhythms to keep you awake. This can make it a tricky listen unless you are in the right mood, within the right environment. But when you get that right, it really hits the spot and leaves you feeling very warm and pleasured.

The idea of the album could be interesting: psychedelic-trance cum Ibiza-chilled, modern, ambient, space-rock and the sound is largely well put together, varied enough and sharp sounding. But it never really adds up to the sum of its parts, it drifts too often towards a sort of ill-defined, new-age muzak-mush - the sort of thing you might hear in some dreadful Camden stall when you're buying your crystals and herbal remedies, ha ha. There's flamenco style guitar samples, some of those preposterously over-used Timothy Leary segments, assorted ethnic vocals and endless squelchy sequencing, all of which fail to capture the imagination. For all the work there may have been in putting it together, I could barely find any hooks through the whole 67 minutes (bar the Massive Attack baseline), no obvious reason for any of the songs.

The occasions when the tempo, beat and volume pick up it seems to work much better, suggesting to me they may have been better off giving us a full on psychedelic trance offering.

The drugs don't work, or maybe they work too well

A bit of a mess this, everything seems to have been chucked in with no identity as result. Probably sounds ok when you're 'shpongled' at 8am, but then a lot of things would. Not sure if it wants to be a club album or a chill oiut, so suceeds as neither. Not my cup of dance tea at all.
