Come back, come back, don’t walk away

There's a great variety of arrangements in these tracks but they all feel tied together, with a clever, unfussy, pop aesthetic. I have to say I think the keyboard playing is essentail to this sound, there are lots of phrases which could have been played on the guitar but I think these touches really give it the colouration and pop finesse which helps to make this a great album. See Six Different Ways, Close to Me and Sinking for a few great examples. When they veered towards more rock guitar driven stuff, both here and on their other albums, although some of it worked well, I always felt it doesn’t really suit them - it’s generally a bit derivative and they are trying to do things that other bands do better. On most of this album, like all great artists in their prime, they are doing something that no other band could ever do as well as them.

They do have a dark, gloomy, gothic vibe in their image and their following, which is pretty odd really when you consider the music they are playing, which is largely at the light, fun, carefree other end of the rainbow. Perhaps the two help to balance each other out. Whatever, this is marvellous stuff, not a bad track on it - thanks for sharing it with me.

Kiss me

What Glyn said.

A thoroughly enjoyable listen; a unique sound which in some ways hasn't dated, full of good pop songs. Perhaps not as good as Kiss me Kiss me Kiss me, but a close second.
