A bit hit and miss but does have its moments

Like most compilation albums, this one inevitably lacks a bit of cohesion and shape. Various similarly paced and similar sounding songs are strung together in an over-long line and then some quite different songs are tagged on at the end. There's probably way too many songs on here to give one's full attention to in one sitting.

It took a lot of plays to form any sort of opinion either way on these tracks, eventually some interesting ones did seem to appear; polyrhythmic and with a good balance of sounds. Others bordered on the annoying or unfathomable; I suppose there's a reason for a track called "This is an Ashanti Proverb" with the title being spoken once as its entire content, but I'd have to guess at it. Overall enjoyable enough, though, with some good grooves.

An exciting tribute with several great moments

Probably too long and too varied, but there are some great songs in there. An enthusiastic tribute to Fela Kuti that often, but not always, hits the mark.

We can probably ban R&B from Neil's CD Club from now on

Can't say I thought much of this, pretty uninspiring material. There's no flow as an 'album', just a collection seemingly random tracks of the 'tinged with R&B and Rap' genre that you hear all too often these days. Nothing stood out, altogether unforgettable.
