A pearler of an album, shot through with hazy memories of childhood from a fast fading era, evocative of half-remembered feelings from when things were a different colour. Nice sleeve.

There’s a great sound to what they do, it’s striking and original - they have a distinctive voice, created by using oft-repeated little devices and themes, it’s clever stuff. There’s a good balance to the sound overall, as well. In terms of the composition, though, I must admit I do find it a bit hit and miss, there’s some absolute classics with amusing samples and great driving patterns but there are some others that feel a bit like half-finished sketches of ideas. Certainly brave and inventive as an album.

They're not actually Canadian

Initially a very stark sound, which centres around two elements - drum patterns, and the weird array of sounds overlaying them. The drum patterns themselves are very powerful with complex structures, and a kind of squelchiness which I find compelling. The overlayed effects range from whale like sounds to odd and psychedelic vocal samples.

I think this album would be best suited to a late night boozie kind of atmosphere, which I intend to try out soon.
