Every now and then you stumble accidentally on a band that makes you take notice. This is a fine debut album from a bunch of relative newbies that you really hope continue and take it seriously in the future.

The album excites me, and makes me smile, from start to finish. It has an individual, uncluttered sound which never falls into the easy trap of over doing it. The delightful female vocals are used sparingly and always leave you wanting more. The slow tracks have a wonderful late night, boozy feel to them. And choruses - fantastic choruses that have you bouncing along.

Yes I like it.

There’s a nice simplicity to the compositions and arrangements, a slight rawness to them, which could well get smoothed out soon if they’re not careful, but which helps to give them the charm and character evident here. Simple songs need a bit of liveliness in the drumming and that is delivered here with bright, vibrant patterns, as are a few lines on the lead guitar.

The lyrics shape a large part of the vibe, as is often the case even if one is not necessarily too conscious of them. References to complicated relationships, sleeping, memories, outlying London locations, walking in the rain and old skool indie all help to underline its self-effacing, low-key charm. The girl singer worked well in her backing parts and particularly in her lead vocal on the closing number, Jonny.

It is simple stuff and I don't know how many repeated plays it might stand up to. It's not groundbreaking but they've got a sound and there’s lots to enjoy on this, from a band I was completely unfamiliar with before.

A couple of tracks have got into my head after I stopped listening to it, perversely. They can write a tune, but I felt a bit of a generation gap and the music was a bit hipsterish plinly plonk 'Topshop-indie' at times, but they seem a likeable bunch.
