Best band currently operating, for my money.

Dave Longstreth always seems to be looking for ways to be musically inventive, and the creativity levels of the DPs puts most modern bands to shame. The band are excellent musicians and I am often staggered by the girls' backing vocals. This album is a little more accessible than some previous work, but without sacrificing integrity or that creative push. Great live band, to boot.

They've made something quite unusual, full of invention and twists and as soon as it starts getting a bit weird they come in with another gorgeous melody or harmony. It's a combination of unconventional left fieldness with some straight forward pop sensibility. There's lots of ideas and approaches but some common elements tie it all together nicely for me: flat sounding drum machine sounds, plasticky handclaps, weird barbershop style harmonies, some nice old-fashioned tunrs of phrase in the lyrics and their unusual melody lines sung with some ability - again just strange enough to stand out but not enough to annoy, at least for me.

It maybe loses its way a little in the middle parts but there's more than a few great tracks on this. A pleasure to discover.

Tune your guitars before you start recording.

A seemingly talented bunch who I'm sure would be interesting live, but this album lacks cohesion and a common sound, all a bit stop-start, making it difficult to put my finger on what they're exactly about.
