I found it a struggle to identify the direction he was after on this. There's quite a few different approaches, which is fair enough, but then he does need to make an effort to tie them all together. It was reminiscent of all sorts of things but, as I think Bean said, Arcade Fire seems to be the most prevailing one. He also does quite a number of textural, ambient pieces, which are mostly good but seem to get a bit lost in the overall feel. There's also touches throughout of 80s synth-pop, which seems a bit of an odd idea as a flavouring, as it seems to largely render things a bit lifeless and plasticky. By and large when the drumming stopped, and particularly the synth-drums, it worked a lot better. It's a long album and it did feel like it, but there were a few good bits.

A rich wall of sound full of instrumentation and vocals, but ultimately repetitive and lacking in creativity. A weird mix of Spiritualized, Fleet Foxes and U2.

One or two good tracks on it, but that's about it for me. Soirt of epic stadium synth pop. Too long, as are a lot of albums, aren't they?
