These are great pop songs in a huge range of styles, delivered so well, I had to consider why everyone smirked and sniggered when I said I was reviewing this. To be honest I didn't have to think too hard – it's the appalling lyrics and the dreadful naff image they have. Essentially the core of what defines these songs is flawed, it isn't ever anything you could invest any of your belief in, except in an ironic, clever-clever sort of way.

I could carry on, I could do the whole album. It's pointless, inane stuff. The album's the sort of thing young kids might love because they haven't really clocked the vibe but sooner or later they'll be old enough to get wise, or you would hope so anyway. It's a shame because this is really well executed stuff, Brian May is a fantastically able and versatile performer, switching between the great range of styles they showcase here with effortless savoir faire – he always fits in perfectly. There are so many neat guitar licks filling the album. The funny looking fella centre stage sure can sing and tinkle his ivories, and the other two do their bits competently and tidily. These are really well performed arrangements of some largely pointless ideas. And the grand standing, over the top, full on approach does get a bit tiring over a long album like this, but I did still manage to sing along for the entirety, in an ironic, clever-clever sort of way.

The problem with Queen is we hear so many of these tracks out of context, such as during sporting events. I've grown to like those more obvious tracks over the years, and it was fun hearing them within the context of this album. But when it comes to the tracks that I didn't know, I really struggled to enjoy them.

What came first. Big bottomed girls, or Big Bottom by ST?
